We are a diverse group of women. Some of us are from border towns, ethnic minorities and immigrant backgrounds. Some of us are technologists, journalists and artists.

What we have in common is that we have overcome online attacks. Our experiences with distressing online assaults left us feeling isolated and uncertain of where to turn.

That drove us to establish this initiative. We saw
a pressing need to offer support and guidance to others facing similar challenges with online violence.

Our Story

To provide a pathway to safety and resilience for those who face online attacks and to help build a safer online world.

Our Mission

What We Do

Stop Online Harm is a comprehensive initiative designed to combat technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), focusing on offering crucial support to the LGBTQI+ community, vulnerable groups, women politicians, journalists, human rights defenders and civil society leaders.

Our work focuses on three areas: Empowering those at risk, Exposing the realities of online harm through documentation and research, Engaging governments, regulators and tech platforms to minimize online harm.

How We Work

Empower

Providing personalized assistance through the rapid response service: The Online Ambulance. Educating the vulnerable on how best they can avoid online attacks and how best they can defend themselves and build resilience in case they do.

Expose

Documenting cases of online attacks in a scientific way to build a comprehensive database that serves to better understand the fast evolving nature of online harm to be able to better understand it, prevent it and address the damage it does.

Engage

Advocating for a safer online world using our research and experience to encourage governments, regulators and technology companies to take the steps required to allow all to live safely in an online world where all can fulfil their aspirations.

Our Brand DNA

Compassionate & Grounded

Survivor-led and focused.

We are survivors of digital attacks. We’re clear-eyed about the realities of digital injury, online and offline. We built Stop Online Harm through a trauma-informed, survivor-focused lens. We stand on a foundation of empathy and compassion.

Action-Oriented

Offering lasting support.

We provide immediate digital harm support, and leverage that experience to drive long-term accountability and permanent change.

We’re not afraid to roll up our sleeves and get to work in the fight for online justice. We are unapologetic in our commitment to protect vulnerable voices on the internet.

Collaborative

Working together toward change.

We believe in collaboration — across lines and industries. We actively seek partnership with for-profits, nonprofits, and companies that can help us build a more inclusive online world, free from harm.

We come to the table with humility, open minds, and a deep desire to reduce — and eventually eradicate — the impact of an unjust digital system.
